| Naruto grew up in Boston, Massachusettes – more specifically, it’s foster care system. Naruto never knew who his parents were, only that they were gone, and he was shunted from home to home for most of his younger years. The instability was hard on him, and he had a tendency to act out in outrageous ways, which quickly led to his becoming known as a troublemaker. He only barely made it though his freshman year of high school, a feat owed entirely to the support of one of his teachers. The man acted very much like a surrogate father to Naruto, and helped Naruto deal with his occasionally chaotic home life. Once Naruto got to his sophomore year, though, he buckled down and powered through as best he could, dead set and determined to make his mentor proud and get into a good college. He joined the school newspaper, too, and found he enjoyed it a lot – it was rarely stagnant, and journalism had a way of revealing the truth that Naruto found appealing. The club also allowed Naruto to form some strong friendships, and his naturally sunny personality truly blossomed as a result. After graduating, Naruto attended Boston University. He loved that he was still close to his mentor and friends, but he found that he wasn’t as happy in Boston anymore. He still loved the city – it was his home, one way or another – but he wanted out. So he applied to colleges across the country for a transfer, finished his first year, then packed up and headed for San Fransisco to see how much more different the West coast was than the East when he received his acceptance letter. |
